A Tender Truth

A truth more tender, none can tell:
that when, by caring, loving well
the neighbor who’s been left to face
a life devoid of mercy, grace,
we let the great outflowing Gift
of God’s own gentle Spirit lift
the Christ Child from His Holy place
and lay Him in an empty space
found in the manger of the heart –
a warm spot where new life can start –
this little spark of endless day
may light their clouded, lonesome way.
And in a world that leaves no room
for many people it assumes
as less than, lacking in some way
the worth that nothing takes away,
this light of hope that cannot die
may lift again the darkened sky:
to those in need, a Child has come
to lead the lost back to their Home.
