I HAVE KNOWN A DEATH

I have known a death called life forevermore.

Its daily visitation

is a stone of towering ascent

and a sea of depthless falling,

a leaping flame and a dark deluge.

In breadth of hue that transcends knowing,

it sears the New World colors into ancient grays,

and weaves an azure canopy upon the nameless void.

Within this swirling cloud of Presence

are faces, eyes, eternal beams of Home gazing on my soul.

In this awesome pouring out and pouring in

dancing breath of Being that is the living One,

a silent voice of thunder in the heart

of everything that is me, that is true,

there is singing that can know no end.
